Before the baptism, you’ll meet with our pastor in a relaxed and welcoming setting. This time is designed to help you understand the meaning of baptism, walk through what to expect during the service, and prepare you for your role—whether you are being baptized or supporting as a parent, grandparent, or sponsor.
Parents make promises on behalf of their child until the child is ready to affirm those promises personally—typically around age 14, in a milestone known as Confirmation (Affirmation of Baptism).
Baptism is open to all who believe and wish to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—regardless of membership at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. While not required, baptism connects you to a faith community and starts a lifelong journey in Christ. We encourage families to stay connected to a church; if you don’t have one, we invite you to Our Savior’s—a friendly, welcoming church with a strong family spirit.
We believe in one lifelong Christian baptism in the name of the Triune God. Therefore, there is no need to be re-baptized if you come from another tradition or feel you have strayed. God’s promise in baptism is lasting.
One or more people of your choosing may stand with you during the baptism. Sponsors are called to support and encourage the person being baptized in their Christian faith. They may be family members or friends who are baptized Christians.
We encourage baptisms to take place during a worship service, as baptism welcomes a person into the community of faith. During the service, the congregation of Our Savior’s promises to support, love, and pray for the one being baptized. If you are interested in a private baptism, don’t hesitate to contact the church to speak with a pastor.

Baptism marks the start of a lifelong faith journey in community. If you are baptizing your child, you promise to teach them the Christian faith, bring them to worship and nurture your own faith. With support from sponsors and the church, this journey will continue as your child learns about God’s love, affirms their faith, and serves others.
In urgent or life-threatening situations, baptism may be administered by a pastor or any baptized Christian using water from any source, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If baptism cannot occur before death, we trust in God’s grace and commend the person to God’s promise of life and salvation in Jesus Christ.
